Police Gives Update on Mohbad’s Autopsy Report
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the investigation into the death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, will not be based on guesswork.
In response to pressure from a civil society group demanding a swift conclusion of the case, police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said that the report of the autopsy conducted on Mohbad remains unavailable.
The Take It Back Movement, a human rights organization, held a press conference in Ikeja on Thursday, urging the police to expedite the investigation and release its findings. The group expressed concern that delays could expose Mohbad’s wife, Wumi, and child, Liam, to “cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and physical harassment,” similar to what the singer allegedly experienced before his death.
Responding to their demands, Hundeyin clarified, saying, “We are not the pathologists who conducted the autopsy. When they provide us with their report, we will conclude our investigation. Until then, we don’t have it, and we cannot base our findings on guesswork.”
Mohbad’s sudden death on September 12 ignited public controversy both in Nigeria and abroad, prompting police to form a special investigative team. Hundeyin initially announced via Twitter that the autopsy had been completed and the police were awaiting results. However, in November, it was revealed that the report was still pending.
